Along the Marietta Riverwalk

This is the oil painting I started en plein air in Marietta last month. It has taken me some time to get back to it and to do the final tweaking of details. What a lovely afternoon painting and visiting with my beautiful granddaughter, Jenny, who is a senior at Marietta College. The weather was perfect and the light divine. The painting is 11"x14" and is painted on a canvas panel.

MEYER'S BARN

I painted this barn one crisp afternoon with Ashley, the cat, in my face and my lap.  Wonderful, affectionate cat.  The painting is 9" x 12" and is painted on a canvas panel.

Painting Patty's Trees en Plein Air

I spent a wonderful afternoon yesterday studying and painting trees. Patty, Michelle and I sat on Patty's front porch and painted en plein air - studying the shapes of the trees and blocking in the darks and lights, and trying to catch the atmosphere and spirit of a hot, late summer afternoon. Doorway at Green Gables, Lakeside, Ohio

This is another oil painting I did at Lakeside last month with the Ohio Plein Air Society painters. There is a real story connected to this one. First you have to know that parking is at a minimum there and something came up and we had to move the car - which was in a premium parking place right in front of where we were staying. So - I set up my easel and chair in the center of the parking spot and proceded to paint the side entrance while my friend took the car on her errand. Actually - I am really fond of the resulting painting - it brings back great memories and some laughs too!

I had a wonderful weekend painting with the Ohio Plein Air Society at Lakeside, Ohio, on Ohio's north shore of Lake Erie. Lakeside is a beautiful nostalgic place that transports one back to life in the 1950's. The adults are friendly, the children courteous and so well behaved...the buildings and cottages picturesque, and the lake totally awesome. We had beautiful weather, too, except for the intense heat. Luckily there was a breeze most of the time.

This is an oil painting I painted on Saturday. It is 14" x 11" and is painted on a stretched canvas. It is called "The Silly Goose" - the name of the store with the green awnings.

My Favorite Barn

This is a painting I did while painting en plein air this morning.  It was a lot of fun, but rather uncomfortable since it was 99 degrees and very humid outside.  We are in the midst of a heat wave right now.  Hopefully it will end soon!  The painting is 8" x 10 " and is painted on a canvas panel.

WHERE'S THE HAMMOCK?

I did this painting on Tuesday afternoon in plein air in the garden of a good friend, Patty Magoto!  It is 8"x 10" and is painted on a canvas panel.   Another wonderful afternoon oil painting out in the joy of nature with good friends.

The Muses painted together yesterday afternoon minus one of us, Patty, who was undergoing breast cancer surgery. Patty came through the surgery very well and I think our prayers had more than a little to do with that. It is also appropriate that we were painting at Rose's church and I know our prayers were heard.

Montra is located about 2 miles from where I live and is a very little town located on 3 hills in the middle of the western Ohio flatlands - thus the name - Montra - after the French word for mountain. These are hardly mountains, but Montra does stand a little higher than the rest of the landscape.

This painting is painted on an 8"x10" canvas panel and was painted en plein air in about 3 1/2 hours. One of those hours was here at home last night just pulling things together. The wind was blowing pretty strongly yesterday and my canvas did a lot of bouncing and moving around. It was a lovely, spiritual afternoon.

Painting at Patty's House - Patty's Redbud

We painted yesterday at my friend Patty's house in the country...it was a beautiful day and we had a wonderful time.  There is nothing like the spirit of painting with good friends.

There were three of us painting this tree and it is amazing just how different your paintings can be while painting the same subject.

Fox Island Adventure

Our painting group, Muses Mix Media, painted en plein aire today at Fox Island at Indian Lake State Park. It was a lovely day and we had a wonderful time. It was windy, so we took refuge behind the restroom building, out of the wind. I was situated under the "women" sign - it was so apropos since we were a group of women painting:) What fun! My painting started with an underpainting of burnt sienna which I then painted over with thicker paints. No knife painting this day!

Deb's Keys Rooster

I just finished this palette knife painting of a rooster this afternoon.  This is painted from a photograph taken by my friend Deb Holmes of a rooster while she was visiting the Florida Keys!  This painting is 8" x 10" and is painted on a canvas panel. This colorful rooster is really this colorful - unbelievable! 

Cookies and Milk

This is my latest knife painting in oil - "Cookies and Milk" - and it is 5"x7" painted on a canvas panel.  It was started on Tuesday, the 16th, and I finished it this afternoon.  So much fun!

I did this knife painting this afternoon with my Thursday painting group - Muses Mix Media.  It is done with a painting knife and is 10" x 8".  It was painted on a canvas panel.

Art's Pitcher and 2 Bosc Pears

I have been doing some knife paintings in oils.  This is the latest that I finished last Thursday.  It is 8" x 6" on a linen panel.  What fun!

King of the Roost

This is a small - 7"x5"- oil painting which I did a couple of weeks ago. I have been trying to loosen up my strokes and I have a long way to go.
